Whippoorwill Club, DEP Agree to Conservation Easement on 104 Acres

A rare instance of a private club monetising land without developing it. The New York City Department of Environmental Protection agreed a permanent conservation easement over 104 of the club's 170 acres in a transaction valued at approximately $10.4 million, protecting the Kensico Reservoir watershed. The 300-member golf and tennis club continues operating and retained the right to make facility improvements including drainage upgrades, a turf management facility and stormwater filtration retrofits. It was the DEP's 18th such easement in Westchester and Putnam.

    104 acres eased of 170 total; ~$10,400,000 transaction value; 300 members; effective early 2014; DEP's 18th easement in Westchester/Putnam
